A Unique Solution for Automating Amica Chips Packaging: A Joint Project by Etipack and Tiber Pack

Packaging chips into multipacks is a complex task, especially if the manufacturer aims to reduce plastic use and optimize the process. Amica Chips S.p.A., one of the leaders in the snack market in Italy, approached Tiber Pack S.p.A. and Etipack S.p.A. with the task of developing an ecological and economical solution for packaging their products into multipacks of 6 bags. The project was successful, and the new system allowed a complete rejection of cardboard boxes and shrink films.

Problem: Minimizing Additional Packaging Materials

Before contacting Etipack, Amica Chips used traditional secondary packaging methods: cardboard boxes or shrink film. This required significant amounts of plastic and paper, increasing production costs and negatively impacting the environment. The task was to find a solution that would automate packaging without using unnecessary materials.

Solution: A System that Holds Multipacks Only with Labels

The new system developed by Tiber Pack and Etipack completely replaced traditional packaging materials with the use of two side labels. The essence of the solution is that six bags of chips are formed into a multipack and secured solely by labels applied on both sides.

Technical Specifications of the System:

  • The system uses two labeling machines Etipack System 5/2, which provide simultaneous labeling on both sides of the packaging.
  • Labels can be up to 250 mm long, allowing for a secure hold on the multipack.
  • The system’s productivity is up to 85 bags per minute (equivalent to 15 multipacks per minute).
  • The process is fully automated, significantly reducing the need for manual labor and increasing production efficiency.

Environmental Advantages: Reducing Plastic Use

The main advantage of this system is the complete elimination of cardboard packaging and shrink film. This solution significantly reduces waste and packaging material costs. By using labels as the primary element for securing multipacks, Amica Chips reduced plastic use by 50%, aligning with modern environmental standards and decreasing their ecological footprint.

Who is this solution for?

Such systems are ideal for manufacturers of lightweight products like chips or snacks. An important aspect is that labels effectively hold products during transportation, preventing damage. For companies looking to reduce their environmental impact, this solution will be a reliable tool in achieving ecological goals without sacrificing productivity.
